Electric fan install
Um, not exactly. It takes the same power from a 3.9 to turn those fans as a 5.2 or 5.9. Id doesn't matter what is turning the fan, it requires a certain amount of work to turn it. And putting on an electric fan does not give the engine more power, it frees up the power the engine already has.
I have an electric fan on my truck wired through a 30 amp relay with a switch on the dash. That way I can turn it on when I need it on and leave it off the rest of the time so I'm not pulling that load off the alternator. Since winter started, I haven't had to turn the fan on at all.
But if you wire it through a relay, then the wires going to whatever type of switch you decide to use can be very light gauge wire to make it easier to run the wire.

I was thinking about doing this on my dakota but I will decide that after I decide if im going to sell it but I already know where I can get a fan for next to nothing and ill most likely just hook it up to a switch.
I disagree! I have mine hooked to a toggle switch and I wouldn't want it any other way! Why not have control over when the fan turns on? Thats why there is a temp gauge on the dash. A radiator fan is not needed at all while the vehicles moving anything over about 20 mph, so why put the unncessary load on the alternator? Also, thermoswitches are known to fail way faster than a toggle switch. I know cause I've replaced them on many different cars.
