Default Pinion seal size?

HELLO!

i've been filling up my rear axle with gear oil weekly because i have discovered that the pinion seal is toast. only problem with replacing it is that i have not a clue what size it is. its on a 2000 dodge dakota slt 3.9L 2wd.

im told i need to figure out the size of the "ring gear." so i guess that is the number i'm looking for. i was told by partsource that it could be 8 1/2, or even 9 1/2. or something else even?

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

The rear cover would tell ya. How many bolts does it have?

Like lghtngblt02 had said, look at the diff cover. If the looks round then its a 8 1/4, if its has sq corners then it a 9 1/4. Also can tell by how many bolts on the cover too.
