Default Anyone got any ideas for what would make a noise on a Dakota in 4wd?

So my buddy has a 2003 Dodge Dakota 4wd. It's probably got around 130k miles on it but I'm not exactly sure on the mileage. It's up over 100k for sure though. Anyway, it's developed an issue where when in 4wd it makes a popping and clicking noise. He said it does it no matter if you are going straight or if you are turning. It still does it. He said you can't hear it once you get going 30 or 40 but it may just be because of the additional noise I'm not sure. It doesn't do it in 2wd however. He replaced the drivers side axle as he thought it was the velocity joint but said after replacing that it didn't fix it. I told him I'd ask online for any idea's as you guys know a lot more than I do. He said they are out of ideas. Any idea's? Thanks.

It's probably the front drive shaft.

I had the same issue earlier this winter.

Was it the u joints or was it a problem with the actual shaft.

My mechancis has changed the whole driveshaft because he said Dodge was only selling the entire piece but in fact it was the round shape near the transfer case who was kind of stucked

A picture of the front drive shaft in question

I also found this better than OE drive shaft on the internet. It's quite intersting because it has both u-joint at each end.
