a knock sensor will be mouned in the block and its purpose is to detect a pre ignition or detonation problem.it produces an a/c voltage when it detects this. it will controle you ignition timing so that your engine will run as far advanced as possible which is where it makes the most power. i am not sure if the 4.7 have one though. i have the same truck and mine has a lifter tick when it is cold probly due to a sticky valve or lifter. it goes away when it is warmed up though.

well you are mostly right..

if it detects knock, it will retard the timing.

and yes the 4.7 has one.

Read his post again, I know a knock sensor retards the timing. He says it runs it as far advance as possible without knock.
