Default Need Rearend advice

I have a 2001 Dak 4.7L with 140k on it and the LSP tore itself apart this week and trashed everything inside. Dodge is quoting $2700 to repair with $800 being ring and pinion and $898 being a new LSP. So I'm looking at other options like either a Powertrax or Auburn. Any info on how these differ? Also each has two models listed for my truck, what is the difference? The powertrax is listed as working with a 31 spline, but isn't my year a 29 spline? Still waiting for exact info from the dealer, which is why I ask.

Hell with the dealer. they are trying to screw you. Check around and find a complete rear from another truck and do the swap yourself. they tend to go for around $400 in my area used.

Well I don't have the time or space to swap the whole rearend myself. They did say if I find a rearend from a junkyard they will install it for $400. But if I do that it will either be an open diff (hate those) or another LSP, which at this point and after doing research here, is just going to go to hell on me again. So that is why I'm going towards an aftermarket posi.

So I thought the Powertrax I linked to was the one people talk about here, but is this what they are talking about: http://www.ringpinion.com/ProductDet...px?ProdID=2489 ?

Also I'd be getting the R&P from autopartswarehouse for about $280 shipped, instead of the $800 Dodge wants.

Decided to just go with the Auburn.

I'm not too sure about the powertrax cause I've just never paid that much attention. I am planing on doing mine soon but I expect to just change it from open to a spool. Am still researching what kinda manners that's gonna have on the street and wether or not my 8.25 is gonna hold it.

I'd be curious how the Auburn handles in snow as far as turning. I really hate open diffs, but I don't want to spin out around corners either. Maybe I should have just bought another Dana Trakloc but after this one tore everything up I didn't want to take the chance.

Yeah, screw the dealers. Even good reputable dealers charge way too much.
