45rfe, 4.7 dakota tranmission problem
I had the tranny oil and filter changed. I put the truck in reverse anytime, the shift is smooth, but when I put in drive there is a delay when cold. If the engine is warm it does not delay into gear. This had never happened prior to the oil change. I had a obd meter on it from a mechanic and no codes showed up. The mechanic had demonstrated putting in drive and reverse a few times continuously and there was definate hard, harsh shifting. With the obd meter, he got the truck programmed to shift back to normal and smooth. After the truck sat for a couple hours I put the truck in drive and it had a delay again. Does it just take time for the truck to understand there was a tranny oil change? Does anyone have any thoughts?
The tranny in my 99 dakota is a NV3500 synchromesh and I purchased 3 quarts of Pennzoil syhcnromesh oil (& one Lucas tranny treatment 11.99 )from autozone at 7.99 a quart , it takes more than the manuals say to reach the bottom of the fill plug . It took 3.5 quarts , but was fully drained and flushed . I also pulled the shifter due to a leak & found both factory gaskets to be uselessly deteriorated . So knowing normally using silicone gasket sealant on trannys is a poor sealant . I used an effective approach of cleaning the center tin port deflector and all surfaces with alcohol , then micro-meshed the same areas then applied the high temp ultra red-orange permatex silicone gasket maker sealant . It has not leaked and the tranny has never been better
Yes definitely I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring and that's exactly what someone had done. Now that it has the Valvoline ATF4 no more problems
