Default Muffler

Since the exhaust on my 2004, 4.7 Dakota was stainless, I assumed it would last forever. The muffler's end recently blew out the seam, and I needed to replace just it. To the parts stores I go. There is NO listing for a muffler for an 04 Dakota. They say it has to go to a muffler shop where they can make one fit. I go to monroe. The only muffler they have to fit will require a short piece of pipe to make it work. I ask if it's stainless, they laughed. A lifetime muffler with a 7" piece of stainless pipe to make it work = $155. I leave. Stopped on the way home at the local Truckin accessory shop and tell them my dilema. They have me talk to their Dodge fanatic who works in the back. He is all to aware of the problem. He says to order a Magnaflow #12286 at $87 and it will slip right on, NO modifications. It is stainless steel, with a lifetime warranty. I did. I got the sawz- all out, and cut the factory muffler in half. Surprisingly, it slipped right off the pipes with no problem. I slid the Magnaflow on, and even used the original band clamps. Took 20 minutes. The Magnaflow sounds GREAT, and it is a direct fit. Just wanted to tell everyone know there is a direct fit muffler available, you just have to know where to look.
