Default 2000 Dakota 4.7L Overheating

Had a thermostat go bad and had to replace it, ever since I have not been able to drive more than 1mile without being in danger of overheating. I have tried 3 different thermostats, verified the rad is not clogged up and still cannot get the coolant to circulate, I have tried to burp the system repeatedly without success.

Parts replaced:

Thermostat x3
Waterpump
Upperhose/cap

Is it really this hard to burp the system once an airlock has gotten inside?

You try the water pump? Maybe it crapped out.

Burp it, there is no way that a water pump is the reason it is overheating within 1 mile.

Default try this ?

remove the thermostat to see if car overheats after 1 mile, water should flow through where it should go , then put the thermostat back in . driving without a thermostat will cause your engien to run cold the whole time , so you should only drive with like that for a short distance 10 km or so . well thats my idea .

is the belt routing okay.is the heatercore plugged.does your electic fan work.do you have a blown head gasket(air bubbles coming out at rad cap).do you have the right mixture of coolant.

Thank you everyone for the ideas, here we go.

-Belt routing looks good

-Tried 3 Diff thermostats, verified they open.

- Not sure about head gasket, no bubbling at rad cap and no coolant usage.

- Coolant mix is good.

Heater core is suspicious, no heat to cabin and the return line is ice cold. Would this cause the total stop in coolant circulation in the system?

Thanks for the great feedback.

Heater core shouldn't cause any issues. But if somewhere else is clogged up well that could be an issue. Also have you verified that your thermostat is the proper way? Maybe you put it in backwards...

Also check the hoses on each side of the rad running to the pump, make sure they are both hot. if one is cold there is your issue.
