Unhappy Power Outlet Socket

My phone charger came apart when I removed it from the socket the other day. As the metal tip fell out, it must have shorted it out 'cos it doesn't work any more.

It didn't make a sound like they sometimes do when a fuse goes and I've checked all the fuses I can find!

I'm talking about the permanently live socket marked Power Outlet 20A, NOT the switched Cigarette Lighter. The same thing has happened to that before but I changed the 15A fuse for it that's under the dash, behind the cover by the drivers door.

I have a Haynes manual for this model year (2000 Dakota Sport) and I've also looked in the Workshop manual that I downloaded from here (admittedly that for 2001 onwards). I've also used the Search facility here but the closest I got was a reply for a 2000 Dorango but I've checked and its not the same.

Does anyone know where the fuse is?

Thanks, Paul.

Your 20A fuse is probably blown, and you probably looked in the wrong location for the fuse...this one is not covered. Look straight up under the parking brake release lever at the yellow box.

Pull it and see if it's blown.

If the fuse isn't blown, check behind the panel where the socket is. There is a connector back there that i have had problems with in the past. It likes to fall out at inconvenient times.

I'm not sure which Dakota models have or don't have it, but...

To the left of the cigarette lighter is the passenger airbag switch, to the left of that is the 12V,20A power outlet.

I only have the one right above my cupholders.
Thanks!

Thanks Netdemon so much! Who would have thought to put extra fuses there? I'm sure that there a couple of spare spaces on the "front" of that fuse board, (if I remember correctly) that could have been used instead.

The fuse had blown, so it was just an easy replacement. Out of interest, what does the other fuse beside it do?

Thanks again, Paul.

Good to hear that fixed the problem. I believe the other fuse there is a 10Amp for the blower motor relay. Why these had to be in a different location than most of the other fuses I have no idea Just to frustrate the hell out of us when we're looking for them I guess.
