Default Power Locks Spasm

Recently my power locks have begun to spasm (lock and unlock themselves) while driving and continue to do so after I have parked the vehicle and taken the keys out. Sometimes this occurs more frequently and worse than other times. Temporarily I have been unplugging a connection down by my left foot when parked so my truck stays locked. Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice is appreciated.

If you cant identify the problem with the powerlocks and dont want the hassle of it until you get it fixed, you can always pull the fuse from the fuse box. I dont think it relays thru any other module so you should be fine.

It may be the central Timer Module is bad. The door lock relays and keyless entry are internal parts of the CTM. The only way to test the CTM is at the dealer with the DRB scan tool, though. It is a pretty common failure on Dakota's.

I thoroughly checked the fuse box in the cab and under the hood but couldn't find a fuse for the locks. After looking in my service manual I'm pretty sure I need to unplug 4 different fuses, meaning at least 4 other things won't be working. Thanks for the suggestion, I wish it was that convenient.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to take it in but I guess it's inevitable, thanks for the advice.

Default Spastic Locks

You'll like this one.

Mine did the same thing. I was also having a problem with the blower motor that turned out to be the blower motor resistor - located under the passenger side dash on my truck.

One of the legs on the resistor plug was badly corroded. I replaced the resistor ( and still need also to replace the plug, by the way) and the door lock problem went away.

Note that the door locks on most vehicles will unlock automatically when there is sufficient drop in voltage. In my case, the resistor connection was causing this drop, and replacing the resistor fixed the door lock problem.

Won't necessarily do it for you, but a cheap fix to try.
