no it is completely different. If you're trying to convert a 2wd to a 4wd then you're going to need a transfer case and then either do one of two things: 1.swap out ALL the components from a 4wd (ei. the torsion bar crossmember, front axle, wheel hubs, shocks, shock mounts, and im sure that there is more. OR 2. swap in a solid front axle and fabricate up your own suspension. Both of these options are very time consuming and will require welding skills. You'd be better off buying a 4x4...

the transmissions are different due to the transfer case so you would need a 4wd trans that will bolt to the transfer case

i plan on converting my 1st gen to 4wd just by switching out the 2wd frame to the 4wd. it seems like a lot of work but if the cab and bed are in good condition i'll just end up using those instead of switching everything over.

they are exactly the same, so they'll swap easily. However, most people here will tell you that the V6 is a dog, especially in 4x4 form.

I don't have a problem with mine. It proved just as tough at Uwharrie as all the V8's out there...
