Default Transmission question

2004, quad cab, factory towing pkg, auto, 4.7V8, 47,000 miles

I only drive 6000 miles or so a year and have noticed when the truck sits up 2 nights and not run for a couple of days (minimum of 36 hrs)there is a lag for the tranny to kick in, I mean it still moves in reverse out of the garage, drive and into the street. Then in Drive it sounds like an over rev, slow motion 1/4 block, back off the gas, push back in and it is fine and shifts properly.. Almost like the torque converter has drained and with movement fills up again and works fine.

This does not happen overnight only 36 hrs or more. Is this a normal thing? Signify a problem? Truck still under warranty but the dealer is 20 miles away and will have to keep the truck at least 2 maybe 5 days to feel the issue. So I DIFFER to my fellow forum guru's...Thanks Frank

Thats normal, the fluid is running back into the pan...just start it, put it in gear for a sec, then let it set for about 15 seconds...no issue

Thank you, I was hoping that was the case, I hate the dealer here, always trying to rip you off.

Any new advice on this? The tranny place says it needs to be rebuilt as the pump is going out...I say BS, then it would do it all the time.

Now IF I allow the engine to warm up and sit after starting for 30 sec to a minute this does not seem to happen 98% of the time.

My truck does the exact same thing. Exact same truck too. It doesn't seem normal but I don't worry about it.

Madison, first I was told there was a service bulletin about the spin-on filter being too small a mesh and was getting stopped up. So I had the tranny flushed and the filters changed and the replacement per Dodge...Did the same thing right away, so that was not the fix...then they reset my computer, still no help. Now they think it is the pump for a $2400 rebuild, I said NO WAY!

I know it is not normal because it was not doing this before. I think there is an in-line valve allowing the fluid to drain but can't get anyone that knows about it or agrees w me. Good luck!.

I would go to a small transmission shop and get a honest opinion. I never drive my truck anymore so I stopped worrying about mine. But I'm still interested in the fix.
