1999 4X4 Dakota 3.9 liter Idling rough
I have replaced the cranksensor, throttle positioning sensor, cap plug and wires. For some reason the truck doesn't throw a code on this issue. You start it up and it runs. 2 minutes into running it starts spuddering and popping. The only way around it is to turn the ignition off, then start the vehicle back up. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Brian
I am going crazy with this issue on my 1999 3.9 V6 Dakota. When I start it, cold or warm, the truck runs ok. 2 minutes into it, the truck starts misfireing and when you accelerate more, the truck pop's/backfires at the engine level (manifold) and not at the tailpipe. I have already had a fuel injector service performed, tune up(plugs/wire/cap rotor). There is NO code being read from the computer nor is the check engine light on. The really odd thing is when the misfire/hesitation begins 2 minutes into starting, if you turn off the vehicle and restart it the issue goes away.....?

Sounds like it could be the catalytic convertor. With the engine cold, smack the cat. convertor lightly with your fist or a rubber hammer. If it rattles, it is bad. You could also have a bad O2 sensor. Have they ever been changed? How is the MPG?
It could also be that the Idle Air Control Valve needs to be cleaned or replaced. When the IAC is bad the truck won't idle right and will run rough and stumble and die out at a stop.
