Smile New Dak 2003 owner - Tonneau and other questions

So this is an older truck (2003 V6 4x4 with 82K) that I have no great desire to spend big money on, brakes and exhaust are now done and I removed the CAP it came with (its for 4 sale). Its just an occassional use vehicle since I travel a lot.

Thinking of getting a folding Tonneau cover for my extended 78" bed, in preparation for the next winter - it will live outside.

Any recommendations?

Where can you get the plastic covers for the sides and tailgate? Mine doesn't have them and there are marks where the CAP was removed.

It saved me $400 on disposal of old kitchen units and other materials today - a great start to owning it.

As far as bed covers go I must say I love my "Extang FullTilt".. It's a vinyl cover with the button snaps and has a hydro set up on it and lifts just like a hard cover. But my fav part is it has a broken hinge set up on the front so u just bump the shocks lose tilt up as far as u can and the whole cover comes right off.

I do like the bed covers, but I dont like mine for the fact that everytime you want to haul anything of any size, you have to unsnap it all, roll it up and tie it off. If it hadent come with the truck, there is no way I would have it, but it is new (dealer installed 1 month before I bought the truck) so I wont complain to much. The hard cover's that fold are really nice and I would like to have, but again, anytime you want to haul anything major, you need to remove it, or have a trailer handy. Just my .02, sorry for the little rant lol

Thanks for the answers guys, I guess part of my problem was knowing the terminology for the truck stuff. I need something to keep the rain off the bed cover during the rainy season and and of course, the snow in winter.

I have pretty much settled on the following tonneau cover as being a reasonable compromise on function and cost. http://www.autoanything.com/tonneau-...A2056A0A0.aspx I'll probably go for EGR side & end caps from the same source.

I have the fold-a-cover on my 08 ram. Excellent cover, simple and straight-forward. I also had an extang vinyl snap-type on a dakota years ago. Stay away from those if you're planning to leave it outdoors in the winter and roll it up, you will never get it back on.

We have owned 2 extang covers 1st was on our 02 f150 had it for about 4 years still looked great and now we have one on our 07 ram makes the truck look better if you ask me but one thing that does suck about them if you do take it off in the winter you will need 2 people to put it back on but ive never been a fan of the hard ones cause you cant haul anything big without taking it off and the tri fold ones dont look as good if you ask me. Also check ebay I got the extang for our ram for pretty cheap and free shipping

Bak Flip. Very low profile, easily folds up into a headache rack to carry larger items. Easy to install.

Well I ordered my fathers day gift, the Extang Trifecta Folding Tonneau cover with EGR caps, had to split my order to get the best pricing. Don't you hate it when discounts exclude circa 50% of the products the vendor sells.
