Default My new 02; bottle jack?

Hello all,
Fri 5/28 I bought & drove home my new-to-me pickup- a 2002 Dakota SXT CC, 3.9 V6 ATx 2WD, 89K miles, gorgeous gold. Sort of my to myself.

Owner/seller left out the jack, & I'll get that today. Everything I've seen so far says the Dakotas have a scissor jack, but the jack that came with this truck- I have no reason to disbelieve him- is the crank-it-up bottle type with a yellow ring at the bottom where it's cranked. The 3-pc rod system & the lug wrench/crank handle look the same as what comes with the scissor units I've seen on Ebay(first thought factory jack was lost), EXCEPT there is no "round hook" on the input rod end- rather, it's the old "dented shaft" type.

Is this fairly common? Maybe a cost-cutting measure used on the SXT models? Maybe Dodge cleaning out some leftovers in the parts bins? TIA

And yes, I love my new '02! Pix to come soon.

as far as ur bars it came with, check to make sure they will still lower the spare tire pulley system congrats on the ''new'' truck, now post some pics of it!

Ill sell you mine, never used lol but really only problem I see with that is make sure your rod lowers down your spare and really I like bottle jacks more anyway they seem to be more stable than the scissors jacks

Yup, that's my #1 concern- just got home a little after 10 tonight, will check it on the spare tire system tomorrow. As long as that works, I'll be happy enough with it.

My '95 came without the jack and handles so I got them at a junkyard. When I traded it on my '98, again, no jack or bars. Luckily I kept the ones for the '95 but the spare tire crank is completely different. I use a metric deep socket on an extension bar and a ratchet for cranking the spare. This works great.

Default Mystery solved!

The mystery is solved! The jack/tool kit is almost certainly from a 2003 Dodge Ram 1/2 ton, mistakenly swapped after an hours-long Good Samaritan struggle to help a friend on the side the interstate several years ago. Somehow they kept all the matching parts together, but got 'em in the wrong trucks- at least that's my bet. Previous owner just stowed it all in the storage shed afterward & has been driving around without a jack for a couple of years now.

The good news? It *will* lower/raise the spare tire just fine. And to really use it, I prefer the bottle jack to the scissor. The bad news? It won't stow neatly away like the factory kit. The bottle jack looks like it'll fit OK under the pass rear seat; the short ext rods will have to go under the driver side rear seat(too long for the short side), maybe the lug wrench too; and the long rod that connects to the jack won't stow in either! I'll figure something out(maybe stow the long rod under the door sill?), & at least I have a working jack & spare retrieval system. May even buy the correct kit if I can find one at a junkyard cheap enough- at least that shouldn't rattle when stowed away correctly.
