I was looking threw a partscatalog, and got to wondering, is the 42RE that comes in the dakota's the same as the 42RLE that comes in the Jeep JK? Anyone know?

I don't think so. It's a modified transaxle per that article. The 42RE is a newer Torqueflight 904 + OD IIRC

Dang, cant catch a break!! I had seen a gear reduction unit for the 42RLE, which is for the Jeep JK, and it basically takes the place of the overdrive unit on the back of the transmission. Has no effect in normal driving condition, but once you hit 4hi and 4lo, it gives a 2.72:1 ratio. Here is the link to it. http://advanceadapters.com/product/4...overdrive.html

i htought jeeps had the starter on teh passenger side like ford and gm
