Default Tire Fitment question

I have a '99 Dakota R/T Crew Cab. Picked it up used a couple months ago (I am a former S-10 owner). I love the truck, and bought some wheels for it. They are 22"x9.5" with a 40+mm offset. I also got some tires, they are 305/40/22. I havnet mounted them yet. Will these fit the Dakota? Currently, I have 255/65/17 on the stock rims and have a little room in the wheel well to play with. Trying to fill up the well and have some good size sidewall.

Ok thanks. Little more info: the front tire that is on there now has about 2" of space from the wheel well to the tread at the closest point, and the part with the most gap is about 3.5". I am also worried about the width. I dont know much about wheel offset etc... I did the measurements and sizing on my Civic and fit some tires perfect. These tires were low cost and close fit so I went ahead and bought them. I just want to know if they fit before I mount them cuz it cost $140 to mount and balance some 22". I dont drive the truck much, it more like a toy/ hobby truck.

a 305 width will be a hair wide (actualy, a foot wide is VERY wide for our trucks) so you may need to check sway bar clearance- That's where my 275's rub. But it also depends on the offset- If you have them offset to the inside, they're run quicker/easier than if you had them offset to the outside. IIRC offset is measured on backside, so the less, the better. IIRC stock os ~3 inches, you took a little under 2, so you might make it.

height wise, a 102mm sidewall on 22's will give you about a 30" height, which is perfect for stock (29.3"). Most of us run in the 31/32 bracket, some SQUEEZE (literally) 33's in without a leveling kit.

Yeah, I have read about people running a tire a bit smaller than this (height) and dropping the truck 2" in the front and 3" in the back. I have a 40+mm offset, and this guy has a +18mm offset, with 305/40s. I know his an R/T Durango and mine is an R/T Dakota, looks like with my additional offset I should be able to fit, right?

Did some more reading, looks like my wheels are offset in the opposite direction that I was hoping for. This could impose a problem.

id say just mount one of the bare rims on ur truck and see if they rub, turn all the way to each direction, then measure out to the tire dimensions and see if u'll have any probs

edit: u might have to do some trimming in the fender well especially if u plan on dropping it cause the stock r/t's r already lowered i think about 2" from the stock 2wd height

Thats a good idea! I am not planning on lowering, thats why I tried to max the tire out, to fill the well and give me some nice sidewall. May require some cutting anyways. I will give it a try and let you know how it goes.
