Default Check Engine Light Question

I have a 2002 dakota with the 3.9, 4x4. I recently fixed the check engine light, it was a leak in the vacuum line. Well today i was sitting in my truck on break at work and i always turn the key to accessories so i can listen to the radio on break and noticed the check engine light was blinking. it came on like normal like its supposed to, then it blinked for about 5 seconds then just stayed on. I read the manual and it said that it means the catalytic converter needs to replaced? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

ok, i mean from my understanding the cel is supposed to stay on when the engine is not running, but i just didnt understand why it would blink...if it meant anything bad?
