Default reving issues

Hi, I drive a 2002 Dakota SLT Quad Cab 4X4 3.9L V6. The dealership in my area cannot seem to find a problem. They say they are unable to duplicate the problems I'm having. Anyway, It usually occurs when it's been raining, during or just after, but sometimes it will do it when it is dry as well. When I start the truck it will rev up and down, over and over like I'm stepping on the gas, but I'm not. Sometimes if I give it a quick step on the gas pedal it will stop, but most of the time it will continue. It will even do it while I'm driving, but to a lesser extent. While driving it will only rev up 200 or 300 RPMs, while driving at a steady speed on the level.

Here is another issue, don't know if they are related or not. If I stomp the gas to the floor from a dead stop the RPMs will go up to around 5000 or 5500 and the thing will not do any shifting until I back off on the gas. It does this jerky kind of action like it's trying to shift, or like it shifts for just a second and then back into overdrive and it will not pick up any more speed. The dealership also said it was unable to duplicate this but it does it everytime I try it, and I could not get the mechanic to get in with me so I could show him what was happening.

I like the truck as a whole, but Dodge service leaves a lot to be desired. Any suggestions? Or, should I just put a match to it? I've been at the dealership 3 times with no results and they will not get another dime from me. I will use some neighbourhood mechanic the next time. Thanks

well, I typically don't encourage people to throw parts at a problem because I hate doing it, but get the book and start checking sensors.....

or just go ahead and change your crankshaft position sensor now....at least take it off and look at it....if its rusty at all on the end (which it probably will be) change it..

the first issue sounds like teh TPS.

the second issue sounds like the typical crappy dodge transmission.
