Default Couple questions about '97 Dakota 4X4

Hey guy, I'm a regular over in the 2nd gen Ram section, but I have a buddy with this Dakota who is needing some work done. And guess who gets to do it?

Ok, first question is about the shift cable. The clip that holds it in the bracket down by the trans broke and he currently has it held in with vicegrips. I have a cable here, is it a big deal to change? Anything special I should know when changing it?

The other issue is with his right front cv shaft. It let go in the woods the other day and we limped it here to my place.(talk about some bad noises coming out of it, I could hear it from behind him, over the roar of both our loud trucks!) He picked up a replacement shaft, is this a big deal to change? Will I have to separate the knuckle from the control arms to get the new one in? Any tips here also? And could the truck be driven at all if I pulled the broken shaft out, leaving the splined end in the hub temporarily? Any help is appreciated

Thanks for any help and tips guys!

No clue on the cable, but, you more than likely (almost certainly) will have to separate the knuckle from the joints to get the new shaft in. Doesn't sound like it will be too much trouble to get the old one out.......

Yeah, you have to seperate the knuckle. I recently did the passenger side cv shaft on mine. Time consuming, but not too hard.
