Default 3.9L to carb 360ci and 727auto swap...

So Ive been thinking for a while, why not toss out my 3.9L and 5 speed for a 360 and a 727? Id love to keep the 5 speed but there arent many ways since id have to have the flywheel balanced since the 360 is externally balanced and itd just rip the stock manual to pieces, any manuals that are easy to find, will fit, bolt up, and handle the 360? I plan on having around 425hp or more...depends on my wallet haha.
any opinions or tricks on the whole swap?
oh and if anyone has a 340 let me know, cash in hand.

if you have the money you can get a quote from keisler engineering. they make a 6 speed manual but i think they only make it by special request.

He has a couple of videos on youtube with the 6 speed in his dakota. They also make a 5 speed that has no synchromesh or something to that end that allows for hard shifting without using the clutch.

But in all honesty if your planing on drag racing your truck go with the 727. But trust me its going to require alot of work and money. You may as well just stick a 5.9 with a 45re or whatever the stock one is for a 5.9.

Good luck and i hope you achieve what you are looking for!

edit: also PM User (Yes that is his screen name) if you are really serious about this, he is one of the experts on modding out a 5.9! He should chime in soon.

360 came with 46re and nv3500 and some cases nv4500. The 4500 came with diesels too so it can put up with some hp but I doubt 425 hp without some major mods to it.

nv4500 would be great but ive seen the size of them and I wanna stay away from major body mods, maybe itd fit with a body lift but i dont know for sure.
Right now im looking at a 318 out of a 94 ram sitting next door, would this engine be the same as in a 97? cause if so ill just snag it up, grab an pcm out of another 97 dakota and go. its got a manual tranny too

nv4500 will fit fine with a 2in body lift.

Cragars are the best!!! they look awesome and there only like 40-50 bucks a piece!

they have been thru a winter, lots of mud and dirt and they havnt faded or rusted at all. BUt i do live in cali so its not as humid here. Just really arid!

Im paying 25 a piece for mine if I order it through work. then im gonna see what looks better, 31's or 295-50-15's the 50's are really wide but alot lower and I like near the everglades in FL, you havent seen a real mud truck till youve been down here.

So is the engine in the ram the same?

Not true. The nv3500 never came behind a 360 because the 360 is outside the torque handling abilities of the nv3500. The nv4500 came behind the 360 and 5.9L TD in the Rams. There was never a 360/manual combo in a Dakota, so the size of the nv4500 was never an issue there.

And horsepower does not kill a transmission... torque does. A transmission does not have a horsepower handling rating.
