Exclamation @!@***$@! help, break pad troubles on road trip

so im 700 miles from home and i noticed that my right front pad is sticking to the rotor, not only can i see the scuff marks on the rotor, smell it but the rim is like 3000 degrees and is melting my plasidip. i couldnt remove the rim it felt like one of the lug nuts head is partially melted or something the socket just keeps slipping over it.

no sure how to remedy this or get it fixed. or just keep driving another 500 miles tomorrow.

sounds like your caliper got stuck or seized up. I had a similar problem with mine, and I'll tell you this.... its better to fix it now before you tear up more stuff.... I had to replace both front brake lines, rotors, pads and calipers. (obviously it only tore up the one side, but if you're going to put on all new brake parts on one side, you should do it to the other side). If your rim got that hot, Im surprised the tire didnt blow out. You may want to have the rim checked and make sure its not cracked or bent now.

Yup, very common on Dakotas. Happened to me last summer. You gotta replace both front calibers.

Where are you? And where are you going?

That's just the stress talking. Take deep breaths and just handle it. You'll feel better for it afterward. Good luck.

If you go with stock parts you should be able to replace everything for under 300 bucks, it will take about an hour per side to replace everything. I just did this a few months ago on my truck. The outer pad on the passenger side separated from the backing plate and destroyed the rotor. The caliper piston boot was dried out and torn so I replace it too. And of course if you do it to one side you should do the other so both sides got done.

If you go with drilled and/or slotted rotors, it'll increase the life expectancy of your rotors. You can pick these up from either eBay or Summit. You can even get them for a reasonable price if you don't demand racing quality rotors.

Trust me I know how you feel. I've been through the same thing a couple times, but unfortunately I don't have the money for a nicer vehicle.
