Brake fitting afu weirdness
I'm replacing all the brake lines on my 2000 Dakota 4x4 4.7; lots of salt corrosion, everything is rotten down there.
There are 3 different kinds of male bubble flare fittings, what look to be:
- M10-1.0 male bubble for 3/16" line
- 7/16-20 male bubble "
- 1/2-20 male bubble "
all three fittings seem to be flared, as in they get tighter and wedge themselves into the ABS, brass junction block or hose as you screw 'em in. The male fittings that came with the AGS poly lines are straight, not flared. They seem to fit the hose, but are just a little too loose and don't feel right. I understand that I'm going to have to re-flare the AGS brake line to bubble.
I want to get new fittings for the new poly line I'm installing, but am having a hard time finding them at local parts stores.
First, what's up with the bubble flare? Isn't most everything double inverted? Why does my truck have European brake fittings?
Second, where can I get these fittings? Haven't tried the dealer yet. Am I going to have to use an adapter at each fitting- that's crazy. Are these special Mopar/Chrysler fittings available only at the dealer?
I'm looking forward to getting these replaced right; I busted a front line just after I dropped my daughter off the other day and am very lucky to be here to fix this.
Last year, I had to replace front calipers & discs, and fill in gouges on the steering knuckle with JB weld where the brake pads had worn themselves down into the knuckle, making them unable to slide. I'm putting new hoses on front & rear- could be the steering knuckle problem was caused by old hose- anybody had that problem?
Thanks.

I had to get mine at napa and it was a major pita. I did the rear and it was fine no big deal but once I got to my front thats where I had to get connectors that ran about 8.00 a piece Im sure there is something out there to make life easier but I wasnt taking it to a dealer to have them do my brake line.
