Default help with an intake problem

I have a 04 4.7L V8, automatic dakota.

everything on the truck is stock execpt that a cherry bomb was installed and an intake.

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...ir-intake.html

installed one very similar to this one if not the exact one but for the 4.7 not the smaller engine

the next day the engine was hotther than normal and could smell something burning. checked the coolent level (full) nothing is leakin nothing is on the intake to burn off, none of the rubber is metling

Took off the intake and replaced the stock one and left the cherry bomb on and could not smell the burning smell and the engine was not as hot seemed to be normal hot

My thoughts

the air intake sucks up more air to create more HP so there engine is burning hotter

the breather hose coulda kinked and lowered the air into the engine (did not go as far as in the post by Rantz on the breather hose but made sure the S shape was not there)

if you can help let me know THANKS

My thoughts so far are still focusing on crud being on/around the motor and, if it is indeed running a bit hotter, whether or not it is this crud that is burning. You say that your temperature stays in range with the intake in, but the motor feels hotter and the burning smell...

I don't think the breather hose, kinked or not, would drastically affect the temperature of the motor.

You could always put it back on and wait it out and watch your motor like a hawk...

A clean motor is a happy motor. removing build up and grime will also make it easier to see what is going on. get a can of engine degreaser and follow the directions.

Also try cleaning the intake tubing. The metal tubing will get hot from the engine bay temps. Was it touching something before. Also try and trace the smell to maybe see where it is coming from.

A thought just occurred to me, catylitic converters can smell too when they are bad or even clogged. I am following your increased oxygen makes warmer theory here. I honestly am not sure whether it would affect the temperature of the motor. If it did, the temp gauge should reflect it. You said it didnt. That is why I am thinking the burning smell is from somewhere other than the heat of the block.

***edit*** so

An intake won't make the engine run hotter - Just breath better. Is it possible a zip tie or other plastic fell onto the exhaust manifold during the install?

No offense taken. I didn't find any how to threads, before I made mine, that included step by step instructions from start to finish.

None of those two threads explain things in as much detail as mine does. Hopefully between all of the how to threads, anybody can figure out how to get it done
