Angry PITA cel

ok, here goes.

my truck has the cel for large evap leak. and yes, i've already read as many posts as i could find dealing with it. i've replaced the gas cap and checked all the hoses for cracks, also checked the charcoal canister for any damage. still have the light. any other common things to cause this? what should i try next? i'm a little lost and any advice would be helpful. one more thing, when i start the truck a get a rather strong gas smell from, well, from the gas tank. i replaced the fill neck and cap, all connections are tight. could it be a bad canister? or purge valve?
thanks

Rollover valve on top of the gas tank or the fuel pump seal. Internally...the purge solenoid or the LDP pump could be ruptured. If you're smelling gas then you're getting close. I've seen quite a few dakotas and rams where the rollover valve (check valve..whatever) nipple breaks off. Bad news if that's it, the valve is part of the tank.

Wow that sucks - I assume after all that work you know to reset the computer by pulling the batt cable for a few - or the code won't go away. But you knew that.

The purge sylinoid could be bad - the canister itself too. At this point you've replaced a bunch of other junk there are only a few things left.

well just last weekend i replaced the fuel pump, so the seal is new, and the roll over/check valve nipple was intact. but i havent disconnected the batt. since then so maybe that'll be it.

You can do a hard reset on the PCM by disconnecting the negative battery cable and hold the ignition key in the start position for about 15 or 20 seconds. It will clear out all stored codes in the PCM. Or you can just stop by Advance or Autozone, they can clear the codes for you with a scanner.
