problem taking out 5.2 engine.. LOOK
Hey guys, new here...
I about 2 weeks ago i bought me a 99 dak 5.2 4x4 love it...
it came with a spare engine w 70k km because the engine in it was ready to go... and it went.
so yesterday started taking tearing it apart and at the last step...
I have to get the torque converter bolts of which includes cranking the engine over. heres the catch.. the engine in sized or what not piston shot out through the side and i cant take the eninge off the tranny???
what can i do?? right now working on taking the oil pan out but its hard when theres a piston shot through it...
thanks for the help

Yep, I would say pull both of them together if you can't get the torque converter bolts off. Then you will need to get the engine moving a little to get to them, but I don't see a way of doing it while it is in the vehicle. And to add to it, you will need to probably dissassemble the engine some to get the crank spinning again.
Or yeah, Derek would be right. YOu should be able to slide it off if you have it out of the truck.

This is assuming (probably a bad thing) that there's nothing latching the TC and trans. Then you could just slide the trans back so that the input shaft comes out of the convertor. And just break down the motor with the convertor still attached to the flexplate until you can get enough clearance to unbolt it.
Yeah, I agree with both of you guys.
I think the motor and trans need to be pulled as a unit right now, really shouldn't be too bad, think about getting yourself a tilt bar, will make your life a whole lot easier, and take the hood off, and the front cross members. Spend the extra couple minutes moving these things out of you way and using the tilt bar will make your life a whole lot easier.

dang thats quite a bit of work now.. what would be the easiest way to take the tranny out...
a) disconnect the tranny from the transfer case... the nut on the topside are that fun...
b) disconnect the drivshafts and pull the transfercase w the tranny engine???

k.. i decided to take it out w the tranny and disconnect at the TC... its out finally!
now taking apart the new engine... clean/gaskets/tune-up/paint
question this engine has 70k km and it looks rough on the outside... the oil pans rusted, just doesn't look like an engine w 70k km...
do they all look like this???
