drivetrain vibration...
I have a '99 dakota 5.2L 4x4. I have a vibration that I cannot find the source of. It starts around 15mph and continues to get worse until around 50mph then tapers off as I get to highway speed(70mph+). I have checked my wheel bearings and they are fine. Removed the front and rear shafts and all U-joints are good and they have no play when they are installed. I noticed driving with the front shaft removed it is less amplified. There is a slight vibration in the 4x4 selector but no more than usual. I have put the truck in neutral and slowly brought rpm's up to 3k(so its not the torque converter)...
I can feel it in the steering counsil and the floor boards. Sounds like it is coming from the rear but feels like its in the front end. Thanks in adv.

I would guess its your tires. You may have a broken belt on one of the tires - check for lumps or tread that is seperating.
Sounds funny - but I've had tires that look new that nearly pulled me off the road before.

Here is a list of things that will cause a driveline vibration.
1. Adding lift to the truck. - Extreme drive shaft angle will shake like a belly dancer - ask any Jeep guy - shouldn't be an issue on a Dakota unless youve gone up more than 4".
2. Bad tie-rod ends - since you work at a tire shop I assume they can do allignments & you have checked this.
3. Drive shaft out of ballance - there are weights welded to the shaft in spots to ballance it - if these are knocked off it will vibrate
4. wheel bearings front or back
5. bad shocks - once a wheel starts to bounce its hard to stop it w/o shocks - if one is broken or worn you will feel it.
Other than that I wouldn't know.
