Default Truck seems a little slow?

Hey guys, i bought myself a used Dodge Dakota SLT year 1997 for 3k, it has a v6 magnum 3.9*L engine in it with 216k miles. It accelerates pretty fast at low speeds but when i'm at 50mph i have to floor it in order to accelerate to 60. and even then it still does it slowly. Also since it's my first truck, I'm wondering is it suppost to smell like exhaust strongly? All our other vehicles don't emit exhaust that smells as strong as my truck. Any idea what kind of maintenence i should perform on it? I have already changed the Oil and the transmission fluid. It starts up as soon as i turn the key, so i don't think the engine is bad. However sometimes after a little while of turning it on, the truck shakes as it's going to turn off. It doesn't though.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

sounds like a high mileage truck. i'd put seafoam in the tank to help clean out any carbon and you can run it thru your tb to. not saying its going to fix everything but it could help.

edit: can on the left is what i used.

haha just like it sounds. like unburnt fuel... Mine had a very strong exhaust smell and it ended up being burnt valves. Same thing as yours too. Would start up no problem and run fine except for the ocasional hesitation. Is it throwing codes?
