IS THE 2004 DAKOTA 3.7 V6 ENGINE YEAR SPECIFIC ? Or did it change with the 2005 3rd generation? I know 2004 was 1st year for the 3.7 liter - is there a year range that is compatable ? Been diagnosed with a burnt valve #1 cylinder and exploring possibility of swapping out the engine vs. valve job - both heads while we're in there. Is this a common problem with only 103k miles and kept up all service ? Guess that heavy duty tow package was a nice sell by dealer but been told shouldn't have been towing even a pop-up camper / small boat.

some where in 03-04-05 the 3.7L in ram liberty and dakota changed tone rings on the crank shaft. you absolutely no questions have to get a motor with the same tone ring count as the one you have in. with that said i vote to do a valve job on your current motor, especially if you know the history!
