2001 Dodge Dakota Sport 4.7L
I have been having this knocking sound coming from my engine, replaced the lifters that did not solve the problem.. Was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions of whatelse I can do to fix it.. The knock sounds louder and knocks more as I rev the truck.. It pretty much sounds like I have a diesel lol. Any input would be helpful... Thanks.
There are two other common causes of this on the 4.7.
1. Exhaust manifold bolt brake causing a small exhaust leak. Small enough to sound like a tick.
2. The heat shield on the manifold is held on with the exhaust mani bolts. This shield is tin & the mounting hole will rust out leaving the shield to rattle agains the manifold. Try bending this away from the manifold or use a large washer to tighten it up.

How many miles, what kind of oil do you use and last oil change. It could be a exhuast leak but its a tick not a knock other thing is leave your engine running and go under the hood and see if you can pin point it.

Hardware store. Just had the exhaust manifolds replaced on my daughters '05 4.7 Dak, cracked, ticking noise. I just didn't feel like doing it myself, sometimes spending the money is worth not having the aggravation. Some of the original bolts were broke off, had to drill them out, etc. I think they were 10mm x about 1.5 inches, do a search of the forum. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Use a higher grade bolt for replacement, and some anti seize. Good luck.
Mine has cylinder #1 and #2 misfire, changed all the plugs and cylinder 1 and 2 coil packs and its still missing. I have to pump the throttle to start it and when it starts there's a smell of raw fuel. I have a knocking/pecking noise as well. I was told the 4.7's were bad for rocker arms coming off and this could be my noise but that doesn't solve my misfire issue. Any ideas??? Need help
