I guess its not like a GM were you can tell from the outside if its a 10 bolt or a 12 bolt. Then its an easy thing to get a new carrier in a posi..

no you can tell by the bolts. did you miss my post on the fist page? lol

8.25 is circular with 10 bolt and 9.25 is octagonal shaped with a 12bolt

Yup, I missed it.. Its a 9.25 is octagonal shaped with a 12bolts. So, is this a 31 spline? One from a 1981 Dodge 9 1/4 with 31 spline would fit correct?

not so fast. Maybe, maybe not. I didn't see what year yours is. The speedometer is read off of the carrier, so any locker you guy has to have the same tone ring. I THINk pre-99 doesnt have the tone ring..i forget

Sigh, why does Mopar have to be different and not rear the speed off the tranny.. That's strange... This one says its my truck but says nothing about a tone ring, never heard of a tone ring.

its so that gear changes wont require a re-cal of the computer (dakotas came with 3.27, 3.55, and 3.92), also controls the rear ABS. Hang on and I'll find a pic. only way to know for sure is to pop your cover off and look.

I see what your talking about, it looks like a sprocket. Thats a 10 bolt, mine is a 12 bolt.

This is the carrier I was looking at.

they say to be approved for ABS brakes, so shoudl be good to go. I would contacr sellers to make sure, but the tone ring may just bolt on, I'm not sure.
