Default Just Joined Today !! /Truck Cap Question.

Hey guys, I just joined today !! I picked up a nice 98 Dakota club-cab, v6, 2x4 a few days ago for 2,200 bucks. My soon to be wife and I have been looking for a truck to pull around our pop up camper for a while now and I'm really excited to get this thing ready for our summer camping trips !!

I was looking into getting a cap for the back and i was wondering if anyone knows what other trucks will fit the second gen Dakota bed. I found a nice Ford cap from a short bed but it turned out to be too short. I don't have a long bed, just regular, does anyone know of some other trucks that might fit ??

I don't think any do. You're better off just getting a new one- they aren't all that expensive. Are you wanting a tonneau or a shell?

I'm looking for a cap so I can put the dogs in the back and not have to worry about them jumping out or anything. Something with tinted windows and a sliding center would be best but I will see what I can find, so far I'v been just watching craigslist for something cheaper then new, they can get expensive for the nicer ones. Maybe it's called something other then a cap, but thats all I can come up with, just a shell or bed cover wont work for the dogs.

Thanks ! My Dakota is Dark Green, they have a black alumminum cap on the custom truck site, I think black would look fine on green. 200 bucks is a pretty good deal.

What fits? Camper shells made for Dakotas, period.

Keep watching Craigslist & do some digging. Looking on Craigslist late one night a few months ago I spotted a fiberglass cab-high camper shell/cap to fit my 02- info was hidden inside the ad, not in the title which said something like "Used Camper shell" only. It's made for the 97-04 Dakota club cabs, came off a 97, made in 98. Some peeling clearcoat on top, one torn side-window screen- but all glass is perfect, front glass has sliding center section, the rear glass/hatch lift-cylinders still work, seller even had the camper clamps for it, and it does a chameleon act. Though the shell is light/med gray in color, under many lighting conditions it appears to match my gold truck very close or even exactly!

The cost? $50 !
