Hey, im having problems with my fan blower in my 98 dakota. It doesn't always work when i go to switch it on no matter what setting i have it on, floor, defrost, a/c, or whatever, although i can feel some heat coming out of the vents. Sometimes when im driving i'l hit a bump in the road then all of a sudden it will kick on, which makes me think its a short somewhere. Has anybody else ran into this problem? I thought maybe its the switch? are those hard to replace, anything behind the dash kind of intimidates me with all the wires and such so i haven't done too much detective work.

dude im having the same issue with my 2002 dakota, im thinking its a lose wired from the vent swicth to the blower. Like you anything behind the dashboard intimidate me. How much work is it to find that lose wired,if it is. My blower seen to have lost power also, when it start working again. thinking to replace the blower, but is it the problem, or is it electrical. I dont know!!!!

 

I had this problem in my 02, the blower fan resistor/harness i guess you would call it, its at the passengers feet, a plug with 4 or 5 wires going in, anyway it melted and shorted out eventually quitting completely, new one from the dealer, spliced it all in, no problems now

 

When you replaced it was it hard to get at, or was it pretty straight forward?

 

I don't know about the 2nd gens but on a 1st gen this would point to a bad blower resistor. I had these issues on my 1st gen and after I changed the resistor out it worked like new again.

 

pretty straight forward, lay down in the passenger foot well look up under the dash, its a plug that looks like it plugs in right near the blower, there is a couple of tabs/clips to get it unplugged, snip the wires as close to the bas resistor as possible, then splice the new one in.

 

X2 easy fix, plug kinda pricey though

 

I've had to purchase the blower motor resistor once before, and then it happened again. This time the harness melted to the resistor. If you need the harness, check some junkyards. I got the harness and a few inches of wire off of a durango and just spliced it together. I got the harness for about 10 bucks, but the dealership wanted about 90. Good luck.
