Default Trailer Towing

Hi folks...Pulling a camper with the Dakota until we can get a Suburban for the wife. It is about 5000lbs loaded and I have the 4.7 V8. It did pretty well last summer towing it, but I want to make sure I take care of the truck the best I can to be up to the towing. Really it's almost all I use it for anymore since I drive my Wrangler most of the time. What are the main things that I should watch out for in terms of maintenance? I am definitely going to make sure I am changing diffs, transfer case and transmission regularly. Any other thoughts?

If you don't already install an extra transmission oil cooler. Check the brakes, if needed install the best pads/rotors you can. Install an electronic brake controller if needed. Make sure your/ hitch ball and all is properly installed. Make sure you have the trailer level while towing, use the appropriate drop or raise.

Trailer brakes are a must. Even when hauling our 20 foot double axle open trailer I notice a big difference with trailer brakes and just truck brakes.

Make sure you are using a load leveling hitch. Also if not already installed I would go with the 3.92 or even 4.10 rear end.
