Default Gas Mileage

Hey guys,

Been in a week or two since I got my 02. Reg cab 4WD sport 3.9L, before I got myself into this mess (haha jk) I did some research and found out that these beasts can get anywhere from 16-19 MPG city, 17-20 MPG highway. It's a significant drop from my GP getting 20-24MPG City, 22-30MPG highway, but then again the gas tank on my truck is smaller than my GP's (60L i think) and i'm averaging about 13 MPG on it. Changing the plugs, cat is brand new, every routine maintenance has been done - am I missing anything?

The truck has almost no mileage on it - 41,925 kms because my grandfather doesn't travel long distances, but I mean should I be getting this bad of mileage? I already pay $213 a month on insurance, and like 50-60 bucks twice a week on gas is hard on my PT job pay while going to school.

Any tips?

You might also want to check the MAP sensor

Clean air filter is a big thing. I know once mine starts to show a little bit of dirt my mpg really goes down im up to 13-14 with 5.2 4x4 auto ext cab. Plugs, wires and cap will help out too. Make sure the throttle body is clean along with all the sensors. Damn I couldnt bare to pay 200 a month for insurance I hate paying 121.00 with full coverage.

I'll try checking those things - anything I'm not familiar with I'll just get a shop to do.

And I feel ya.. I'm only 18 with not 1, but 2 cars in my name! I'm trying to get rid of my GP and this thing is 282 a month. Better gas mileage on the GP, but much higher insurance.

Hopefully I can get at least a little better mileage haha.

Thanks guys!
