Default rear brake problems

Ok, here's the deal, my brother in law just lost all brakes on his '98 durango, so he was told by someone that the master cylinder needed replaced. He replaced the master cylinder and now he has front brakes, but no rear brakes. When he went to bleed the rear brakes, he got absolutely no fluid after pumping, and releasing the pressure several times. I told him that maybe he didn't bleed them long enough, or that maybe there was a problem with the proportioning valve. Any ideas?

Prob the valve. Did he drive around at all or at least start it up to see if could get fluid to the rear

As stupid as this is, he's actually been driving it around a bit. He's supposed to call me today with any updates. I'll get more info at that time

+1 to the Bench Bleed!

Get a mighty vac unit and save a lot of trouble. Ive bled brakes both ways, and well, cant beat squeezing a lever. It also gets everything a little better in my mind, and faster. Just gotta watch your resivoir.

Driving around wont matter toooo much...as long as the fluid isnt leaking out the rear line somewhere. you do have 70-85% of braking up front anyway....

I replaced all my steel brake lines after my rear went and I had no problem bleeding them. Its easy if you have 2 people.

If you put a hose on the bleeder screw into a container of fluid (with the hose into the fluid) while you are bleeding the brakes it will keep you from sucking air back into the line if there is a problem during the process.
