Default shift shaft seal?

so i got my tranny fluid changed this morning, finally. it was looooong overdue. they said the shift shaft seal was blown out and leaking. it was a 3 dollar fix. not worried about it but ive got no idea what it is...any one know.

havent gotten a chance to test the trans shifting with the new fluid b.c of the snow on the ground.

i should have just asked the dude that did it but i was tired and wasnt thinking right.ha
