I was looking at an eBay seller's items for sale (he specializes in selling interior trim pieces), and everything he had for second generation Dakotas was all dark gray (he had quite a few items, so they didn't all come from the same truck). If so, that certainly simplifies things when looking for replacement interior trim pieces.

No there are a couple of different greys and a tan as well that I know of, I think the early dakota like 97/98 had a light grey interior and later 99 and up have the charcoal grey interior, not 100% positive about being able to get light grey in the later years, this is what I have seen with my own experiences with gloveboxes and other interior panels.

"Charcoal gray": I assume that's the same as "Dark Slate Gray" (which is the term that showed up when decoding my VIN). Maybe it was the '01 - '04s (or whatever) that all had the dark gray; or if they didn't all have it, it seems like most of them did.
It seems that gray interiors have become the de facto standard among most manufacturers since at least the '90s. When I was a kid in the '80s (and there were still a lot of '70s cars on the road), there was no de facto standard interior color. You variously saw green, red, black, white, gray, blue, tan, brown ... and various shades of most of those to boot. I don't remember seeing many gray interiors back then actually. If you were looking for a replacement interior piece at a junkyard and hoping it was a matching color, the odds were stacked against you.

Not sure about 97-00. But in 01-04 when the interior was changed there was a tan interior like this one (just a random one I found on ebay): http://www.ecarlist.com/showroom/2689/photos/724427#16

I agree, it is weird looking. I have seen other ones like it, and heres another one I just saw (looking for parts lol) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-9L-...item4cf4f6e866 . Same deal with the bezel around the radio and the steering wheel.

I want a replacement radio/heater controls/instrument cluster bezel because the previous owner graciously drilled a hole in it to mount God-only-knows what cheesy accessory; so it looks like I won't have to worry about finding a matching color on that piece at least; it appears that they were all gray regardless of the color of the rest of the interior.
