Default Manual valve body

I have a 2000 4.7 4x4 with an auto and it has been giving me problems with shifting. I did some research and thought on doing a manual trans swap but it sounds like it's not really worth it. Is this true?

So I did some more research and read about manual valve bodys and I am interested in this. Does anyone have experience with this and does it sound like a good idea? I would love to be able to control when I shift but not ready to fork out cash for a manual swap.

Thanks alot for any help!

i dont know how good it would work out on a computer controlled tranny. it might make the computer freak out lol. i had a trans am with a built sbc and a turbo 350. it had the man valve body but it also had a performace **** kit and kicked like a mule even when u were easy on it. it was cool to shift your own gears with no clutch but i think it would get old in a every day driver. imo.

I found kits online for the 42re, which is the right transmission for the truck right? So Im guessing it will work since they sell kits. I dont know too much about these, so when you shift do you let off on the throttle a little or all together? Also would i be able to put a shifter up through the floor if i decided to do this?

Thanks for any help

A manual swap is easy if you have the right tools and you either have a donor truck to pull everything or if you know what you all need to get. Also If you have the 4.7 Im pretty sure it isnt the 42re.

the 42re was put behind the 3.9 and I think the 3.7, you should have either the 44re or the 45re

How much do you think a manual swap would cost after everything? That is what I really want but I'm worried about money, and do you know what transmission I would need to replace it? And I also would need a new computer from a manual right? One last question, does it matter what year the donor truck is?
Sorry for all the questions This is my first vehicle doing work on so I'm still learning stuff.
