If that sony actually hits the right db out of that port tube that's aimed right at you ear.. talk about hearing loss.. my system makes my ear pop when I am really doing some SPL style burps and some of my more favorite music..

Could not image aiming the port at my ear though.. owch!

yep, if i'm playing the right song and have ALL the windows open, then every time the sub hit it feels like someone is punching you in the head.

there can't be enough air space for that thing to sound as it really could there is no way lol, i have one 12 in my homemade big *** ported box and with more breathing room it sounds so much louder, but looks cool dude, i just wanna do two twelves

exactly! i had 2 12' kicker L5's 1200 watts rms. and it rattled EVERYTHING in my car but as soon as i moved it to my truck when i got it i felt like it lost about a quarter of its power. now this is wierd because when all my windows are up it sounds like ****. now when my 2 front windows are down. I shake everything within a 2 car radius around me..its just theres not enough CUBIC feet in the truck cab to accomodate for the (**** i forgot the word) uhhh airflow? yeah you get it. thats the only thing that sucks about subwoofers in a truck

Thats because of cancellation.. a wave at any given frequency has a certain slope.. wave has a certain distance to travel out to complete the cycle at the given volume.. so with the windows up, the waves are bouncing off (before complementing the cycle) and you get cancellation.

It is always a constant.. in any car the sound will be slightly louder with the windows down because of the above statement.

Rather that is decreased on cars and trucks with larger space inside because there is more room for the wave to travel.

When working with trucks this is a big issue to try and overcome because there is not alot of airspace.. thus you either have to go to a smaller setup that will create the same responce but not be as big (Volume of the wave) so that it can compleate its cycle better.

Or go bigger.. to overcome.. but of course even though you will have a gain in running something higher powered,.. you will have the same problem.. but just be able to have a louder over all volume with thewindows up.. but my God with the Windows Down.. Hell on Earth.. I found because you can not load properly the Sub up against the back wall (Like you do in a trunk) its harder to get the same response..

Loading is the positioning of the Sub to reflect/refract off of an object.. you have 2 waves.. 1 coming from the front of the sub and one from the back..

You move the sub slightly towards the truck lid or backwards to get the 2 waves in faze. Often times this is the effect of a trunk has being able to hit slightly harder than a truck.. because you can properly align these two waves.... when the sub is not loaded properly you will have a loss of DB because at some point one wave reaches the front quicker than the other.. when those two opposing waves meet with in the confines of the car/tuck freq. gets canceled out.. giving the appearance of bad sound.. or decrease in sound..

To put this in to perspective i will do this..

This is wave 1 (back of speaker in a trunk the wave moves from the direction of the rear of the speaker towards the front of the Car)

Lets say those are the bass notes in a song..

SO this is what a properly alignment should look like..

Wave A: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
wave B: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
(You notice they are aligned)

This is what an improper alignment (Loading Looks like)

Wave A: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
Wave B: __1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10

As you can see they are no longer in sync (Alignment)

You would fix this by either moving the enclosure closer towards or away from the trunk lid or the firewall (back of cab, roof, floor)

So when those opposing numbers meet it causes cancellation.. instead of getting both waves at your ear at the same time.. you only get the non-canceled wave.. thus making it seem lower..

(this is kinda the same thing that happens when your windows are rolled up because there is not enough room for the waves to complete them selves fully so you only hear part of the wave..

Other times it is because there is not enough room in the cab or too much pressure for the cone to move as freely.. in one way or another..


In a truck.. when you point subs forward backwards.. its harder to get the right alignment (Loading) either way the waves reach the front/back at different times so often times you get decreased sound..

Some adjustments to porting and tuning can over come but you get more of sound created by the port rather than a deep rich bass by the resonance of the box...

I found in my opinion for best sound.. in our trucks to fire up.. towards the roof of the cab.. the closer to center (Bottom to top) you can get the face of the woofer, the better the alignment and better and increased sound you get..

Here is a picture of my setup just so you can get an idea..

Yeah I had a single 10 in my truck pointing towards the roof and 90% of the time I drove around with the amp turned down because it was too much bass for when you were just drivin. If you turned it up the bass would hit hard and rattle everything in my truck. It was great for just a 10
