Does anyone know if....
A stock am/fm cassette cd player, from a 2001 Dakota quad cab, is swappable with a stock am/fm cassette from a 1999 Dakota Club cab. The hole in the dash looks to be a close fit in size, but im not too sure of the wiring harnesses etc. Has anyone done this before?
It will work and play music with the Infinity system in either truck. But a radio from a 2001 will not mount into the dash of a 2000. The 2001 has 4 mounting holes for the 4 screws that hold it in place, and it has rounded corners that fit into the rounded radio opening bezel of the dash panel. The 2000 is a square-cornered, rectangular shaped radio with one mounting hole on the lower left corner and one on the upper right, and they are large holes that accomodate the two 10mm mounting bolts. You might be able to figure a way to make it work in the dash if you really want it but it would be much easier and give a lot beter sound quality and features to just go with an aftermarket unit. They make installation kits that adapt the dash opening to mount the new radio and there are wire harnesses to interface to the Infinity amplifier. Nowadays you can get a nice deck and the parts to install it for $100.00 to $150.00, maybe less if you buy online. It's super easy to install a new deck in a 2000 Dakota. If you don't want to do the work yourself, Best Buy often runs free installation deals, or just buy at a good independent car audio shop.
