I did this in my ram but i had to run my own power wires and so on it can be done with out the pcm you just have to have a little electrical now how you will need relays one for each window, wire, solder, shrink tube and a wireing diagram for the window switches
its not hard if you know electical

I had a leg up as i used to install many aftermarket systems and alarms and remote starters for a local dealer ship

Stick to it and you will win just get the doors or guts from a nother truck look in your local classifieds for people parting out their trucks.

I was thinking about this exact idea the other day: I could just by-pass the PCM and hard-wire the electroncs for the doors. I might have to look into doing that...

Well, when I get pulled over, the cop walks around to the passenger side and I have to reach over to roll down the passenger window manually. Its inconvenient...

how this coming along? I had this idea the other day. i was sitting in my truck and saw how the cover pops off to put the switches in for power windows and locks. I just recently went from a 01 1500 dodge ram sport 4x4 loaded to the 99 dakota manual windows locks, 2wd, 3.9v6 so its a big step down. I like the dakota but miss the ram. Any how I was curious how hard it would be to do this swap. Any progress since?

Having trouble finding parts, honestly. I'm going to have to open myself up to other color options besides Atlantic Blue. I need a fender too and I can't seem to find one anywhere in my truck's color. It's going to need some touch-up anyway, so I might do just that.

I will also have to find a place willing to deal because I'm not paying a fixed price for all of the components inside the door. If it's cost prohibitive, I won't do it...

It's already going to be complicated enough to wire up the relays and what-not...

I had this exact same question! Glad somebody else had the same idea. I have a 2000 Dakota with manual crank windows. My AC is not working right so I'm driving with the windows down (It's already in the upper 80's down here) but it's a pain in the *** to reach all the way over to lower and raise the passenger side window! And when I leave a parking lot I like to lower the windows a bit to let the hot air out. Power windows would be soooo much more convenient.

I think I'm just going to get my AC fixed lol

I was thinking that if I could find the doors with the power windows and locks already installed that I could swap them out with minimal issues. So, I had a couple questions:

1) Are all Dakotas pre-wired for power window and locks, or will I need to wire it?

2) Where would be a good place to look for a complete door? Any good online sources?
I did this to my 97 from a 99 and i had to have all the wiring from inside the cab (yes even the harness connected to the back of the dash) and all the wires under the hood. I even swapped the harness that runs to the back of the truck just to be safe. I started with just the doors but then noticed there wasn't a plug for the power option going from ctm to doors so i had to change the whole dash, then my headlights wouldn't work so i had to swap the under hood harnesses so i figured i might as well swap yhe back too. I might have had so many problems because they were different years but just a heads up of what you might be getting into.
