Default 2000 4.7 timing chain and gears.

I own a 2000 Dakota Quad cab with a 4.7 engine..I heard some clacking at idle from the engine area so I took it into the Chrysler dealership this morning..They called me back with a 925 dollar estimate for parts and labor to do the timing chain, gears, and tension adjusters..I about fell off my rocker when I heard the COSTS.It pays 6 hrs labor @ 75 bucks per hr..And the rest of the bill is for parts..Thinking I might save some $$ by going with aftermarket parts,I called our local Murray's Auto,Advance Auto, and Auto Zone stores for the complete timing chain kit set..The least exspensive aftermarket timing chain kit I could find was still 450 bucks..So I told the dealership to use their own parts..This is my second Dodge and BOTH needed timing chain and gears replaced, this will be my LAST Dodge truck for a very long time..

Im extremly unhappy with the overall gas milage and the amount of $$ I 've had to dish out for this timing chain...I feel like I've been completely ripped off on the parts..Since when does a timing chain and associated parts cost over 450 bucks for a timing chain and gears?

thats not that bad of a deal, dont forget we have two cams and need to sprockets for both and the configuration of the timing chain is most important. i spent 750.00 for aftermarket cams and another 400.00 for the install.
