If it's cranking and won't fire I'd check the coil out first(assuming it's a cap and rotor set up) even if there's spark at the coil it might not be strong enough. If there's good spark there check out the cap and rotor then I'd check the fuel pump make sure you can hear it running when you turn the key on

Ive had 3 coils go bad in my truck(03 qc 5.9l) and every time there was still spark at the coil. Spent a lot of time and money the first go around before I decided to put a 30$ coil on it and it fired right up

Im betting fuel pump. I had the samething happen to me only mine didnt shut off it would still idle but if you hit the gas it would die out. Try turning the key on and see if you can hear the pump turn on, if you cant then thats your problem.

Make sure the pump has a nice steady sound to it too, if it sounds like it's gargling chances are it's the problem

I just did a fuel pump in an 02 avalanche for my father in law.... I told him if it goes out again I'm busy that day, most ignorant tank I've ever dropped
