Default Steering Shaft U-Joint

Today I think I figured out what has been causing hard steering on my 04 3.7 2wd reg cab dak. I sprayed the steering shaft U-joint and it steered fine after that. My question is....does this have to be replaced? Does it mean it's worn out or is it just a matter of lubrication? If so, how difficult is it to do?

I think there was a recall on them for one of the years not sure which. I think most of the guys that have this problem just spray theirs every couple months to keep it from getting tight.

thanks for the info dude. I used wd-40, but is there a better lubricant to use on it that you know of? Would a thicker oil or grease be best?

White lithium grease made by crc. We used to use it on our tree spade at work and it was some good stuff lasted awhile too
