P code problem

Default P code problem

I plugged my truck into a computer thing at the dealership i work at. the code it gave me was P0551 for the... Power Steering Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance...should i replace the sensor or just replace the whole power steering pump..witch one is cheaper

Try the pressure switch (sensor). It only takes a few minutes and they have a habit of leaking on the Dakota sending PS fluid into the PCM.

It's a lot cheaper too!

How do you change it? Pick up a new sensor. You should see it in the high pressure line near the pump.

Remove the connector. Clean the area first then unscrew the old one and screw in the new one. Tighten it to about 10 - 15 foot pounds, fairly snug. You'll lose a little fluid so have a rag and be ready.

ok how much does a new sensor cost, and should i go in from the top or bottom of the truck

You can do it from above, its right off the pump, on the high pressure line.
