Mine did that when I got it and they replaced the IAC and the PCM...they steam cleaned it or something and it burnt up the PCM I guess. It would randomly buck/die and wouldn't idle for crap. Id try the cheaper things like you said but that could also be a culprit.

If cleanin it made it run good for that night id assume a new one would fix your problem. Mine just randomly went out, the truck wouldnt even start unless i gave it gas and as soon as i let off it would die.
As you can see it was completely black.

Well I put a new IAC on my 98 and it ran great for 2 days. This morning when i got ready to leave work it died again. It took about 4 minutes of trying to start it and it started up.It ran great all the way home and did not die out anymore.Guess I'll have to try something else.

The computer uses that sensor to work the IAC and if it is not working properly, the IAC will not work properly...eventually, if it gets bad enough, it will stall every time you come to a stop...
Where do you stand regarding this exchange??

Did you reset the computer after installing the new sensor?

Also need to make sure that the wiring harness for the sensor is not the issue as well...
