Default steering wheel pop.. how to fix it??

i have a body lift and have heard that the steering wheels start to 'pop'..mine never did..until yesterday.. its not loud.. hell it not even a pop it more like a tap.. but its annoying and feels like its coming from the steering shaft. it makes the noise just after the steering wheel passes the little bit of play.. either direction left or right..

any advice on how to fix this thing? i know there are mini U joints in there that I could replace but I wanted to ask before replacing the wrong stuff..

its been a little too cold for me to tear the colunm off and investigate where its exactly coming from.. and I have 2 people coming to look at it TODAY!

thanks for the help!

Here is a list of things to check, because from the sound of it, it could really be anything in the steering unless you KNOW that it is coming from the intermidate shaft. Check for any play in the tie rod ends, wheel hub assembly, pitman arm for any slack and then the intermidate shaft.

I would say you need a new steering shaft.

Give us some details on the year and model of the truck, and you would probably get some links to parts...

If its a '97-'99 4x4, you need this sucker:

I would note that with free shipping that is not too bad of a price IMHO...

its an 01 CC 4x4 3.9 the steering componets are all good to go.. it is definately coming from the shaft.. i haven't diagnosed if its the upper or lower.. the lower would be easiest to pop in and out.. the upper...yeeehh pulling the steering wheel off and stuff is a paaaain.

thanks for the help guys it will be a few days before i can dig into it with the stethascope.
