Thanks, I asked this question on a few forums, and one person stated that unless I have a LS rear end (not open) I do not have true 4wd. So i guess I'm calling the dealer to see what they charge. Thanks again for the help, I'll check with my local auto customization shop also to see what they say.

Snow ratings between 5.1 and 5.7 out of 10 for snow traction. I'd say that's not too great. They certainly dont look like a snow tire the way the tread is designed.
5 really isn't that good, but as I stated, the difference between this and my last truck is so big, I have to believe there is something else going on. Even if they are rated as a 5, I would not expect to lose control on a straight road in 3 inches of snow at 40 MPH in 4WD. If that were true I would just buy a FWD car.

Its the tires trust me. We have a 07 ram 1500 hemi. Bought it with 13k on it and 2k later got into accident due to snowy roads. That winter threw 400lb in the bed and it was fine. I had bald bfg's on my dakota and 2wd it did fine in rain and some snow and in 4wd it still did awesome and I have a open diff. The crapyears all seasons suck period. Got new tires on it in december and has been fine ever since. May seem weird but ive been driving 50mph in the rain before and got on it and actually had the rear slide to the next lane, it wont do that now. Just try to throw some weight into your bed and I bet it will be fine.

I too think its the tires. SRA are like an SUV tire aren't they? Those are predominately highway tires...

You need a truck tire for the truck. Don't buy a an Auburn posi unit because you have the wrong type of tires on your truck...

Any of those will be significantly better...

My 2008 4.7L 4wd Dakota came with the SR-A's on it and it wasn't very good in the snow even in 4wd. I hated that truck and eventually got rid of it. It had the open diff in the rear too. Even in a straight line in the snow at a safe speed it was just kind of squirrely and kept me on my toes.

I also had a 2004 Hemi Durango with SR-A's and again it wasn't very good in the snow but better than the Dakota. However, in the Durango I switched over to the Firestone Destination AT tires and it was a night and day difference. That thing would go almost anywhere after that. I remember back in 2006 we had a big blizzard and that thing would just push the snow out of the way. I never had to lock the center diff either. Just kept it in AWD. Even my wife was amazed at how well it did after the tire change. I should never have traded that in for the 2008 Dakota.

And now on my 2wd 1997 Dakota I run the General Grabber AT2's which have a bit softer tread compound than a comparable BFG and these things just stick to the road. I did have BFG highway type tires on it and they were horrible in any condition. The rear end would just flip out in the rain when taking a tight corner with just a bit of throttle.
