Default 98 v8 sport chugging problem

so i have a problem with my sport. so far when im in idol its fine but when i step on the gas i get a "Chugging" and it backfires. the problem started 4 days ago and its getting worse. Even when im driving down the highway with a constant speed it will do the same thing, start chugging and backfire. A friend of mine said it might be the E.G.R Valve.... just wondering if anyone has had this problem, and what they did to fix it. im going to take it in today and have a look at the E.G.R V, anything else i should ask them to take a look at??

Lots of possibilities. It could be a vacuum leak like the EGR would be. Or bad fuel pressure or bad ignition timing like a moved distributer or misplaced spark plug wires.

I will move this to the 2nd Generation Dakota sub-forum.
